DUNTHORPE KITCHEN AND BATH
The clients, having lived in a small bungalow for a good decade or so, found a large, lovely contemporary home in the SW hills and asked for our assistance in making it more functional, as well as comfortable. They gave us a long leash to have fun with the details. The house was calling for a handcrafted element to soften some of the 90’s mood, and the client direction was for the design to be modern and sophisticated. Armed with that knowledge we created a U-shaped kitchen layout which allows for a peninsula of granite for cooking while entertaining, a breakfast and wet bar niche for the morning hustle (or evening cocktail), and plenty of room for prepping for baking on an expansive concrete counter. For family breakfasts, we created an integrated oak table set on a trio of legs, as well as counter seating as an alternate. The floors are large ceramic tile set on the diagonal to complement the architecture.
The Master Bath layout was re-imagined with terrazzo floors, a large linen closet and custom oak vanity with quartz counters, and a translucent backsplash to keep the light flowing throughout the space. Ann Sacks tile lines the walls, where the shower leads into the freestanding soaking tub which has a view of the gardens. All of the pulls were custom designed and handcrafted out of solid white oak. to top it all off, the master closet was carefully designed to maximize every square inch.
